Democratic National Convention attendees have expressed their determination to confront JD Vance and Donald Trump come November, with both women and men ready to fight back vehemently.
During the DNC this week, a bevy of delegates and guests spoke out regarding Vance’s infamous ‘childless cat lady’ comment, which infuriated Jennifer Aniston.
Numerous women have made it clear they aim to “vote him out,” while various men have labeled him a “hustler” and “misogynist,” reports the Mirror US.
“I think that the cat ladies will be after JD Vance. Because I know a lot of women in organizations who represent cats, and those cat ladies are coming to canvass, to vote… and to do everything to get him out,” said Kelly Sherrie from Louisiana, currently residing in Houston.
Continuing on this note, Lisa Lowe from San Antonio, Texas, added: “I’m not surprised, it tracks for that party.. as a Mexican-American woman with two daughters of reproductive age, that party has been coming after my family pretty much daily since Trump came down the escalator.
“They want to push us further and further back. I had more rights than my daughter. I’m [with] the Texas League for Women for Kamala Harris, we’re the largest grassroots organization nationwide, with over a million plus women, and we’re all coming to vote in November.”
In a July 2021 interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Republican Vance criticized the Democratic leadership, describing them as a ‘bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices they’ve made.’
He further stated that ‘they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too,’ naming VP Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Pete Buttigieg specifically.
Vance added: “It’s just a basic fact- you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”
The Mirror spoke to both men and women about these comments, and all had strong reactions. Many women expressed sadness and called out the ‘cruelty’ of his remarks, while several men responded with more anger.
Whitney Hu from New York said: “I have a lot of friends… that struggle to have children. For a lot of women, we know that our pathways to becoming mothers don’t always look the same, and I think his comments were just … cruel. I think there’s a real crassness in his comments. His comments cheapen their experiences.”
Defending his single mother and all women, Sean Johnson from Indiana, a member of the Black Caucus of Young Democrats of America, remarked: “It’s funny that a man who came from a woman has the gall to stand up and call someone a childless cat lady – without this woman, or ‘cat lady,’ you would not be here.
“I take comments like that as disrespect… [showing] his lack of maturity and why he should not ever be in leadership… JD Vance is a woman-hater, he’s a misogynist, he does not deserve to sit in any room in the political realm.”
Echoing these sentiments, Richard Streitman, originally from South Carolina and now residing in Chicago, shared his thoughts on ‘negative politics,’ which he claims originated in his home state.
He criticized Vance’s inflammatory remarks, saying: “That is a call to emotion, it’s not a call to people’s reason, and it’s not a call to any policy issue. This man who claims to be an Ivy League, educated, intelligent person is nothing more than some hustler on a street corner whipping up emotions. It whips up the anger of the people who are on the left, and on the right, but it really upsets people on the left, because why is that even an issue?”
Abby, hailing from Texas, humorously brushed off Vance’s jibe with a grin: “I’m a childless woman. So… I am not [miserable] or sad. I actually don’t have a cat, I love cats, I love animals, but I am allergic, and I am childless, and I’m happily married, and I’m not miserable, and I’m 38, and I’m not afraid to say my age.”
Meanwhile, Jeff Bolack from Spokane, Washington, came to his ‘cat lady’ partner’s defense: “I think JD Vance’s cat lady comments, first and foremost, for someone who wears that much eye makeup, thorough surprising. But also turns people off.”
Bolack, associated with IBEW89 union, elaborated: “My partner and I, we have cats. We have four cats, which is too many… but she’s not some wild crazy cat lady, she’s a wonderful human who just loves cats too much.. and buys a cat tower for each one. But she’s also a teacher and teaches kids and has way more positive impact on kids than JD Vance ever will.”
